I joined Juristat as an advisor
I'm happy to share that I'm an advisor to Juristat. Juristat delivers insights on patent prosecution outcomes, provides competitive intelligence on patent strategy, and automates the tedious parts of patent prosecution.
Here's how I found Juristat, and why this role is a good fit, and insights from the process:
The Juristat story
I met Arun Mittal through LinkedIn. Arun is Managing Partner at MBM Capital, which acquired a controlling interest in Juristat. Arun Mittal had seen my posts and sized up my network and influence among lawyers, particularly in patents. He asked if I'd be interested in helping Juristat grow.
I was immediately impressed with the focus of Arun's vision. And then I was just as impressed when I met Francesca Cruz Juristat's SVP of Revenue, who understands business objectives in patent prosecution and the legal strategy that follows. Everyone I've met at the company is driven and purposeful.
Why I joined Juristat as an advisor
I run a legal recruiting agency focused on law firm placement. But my real business is investing in my legal network. So I also invest in in-house counsel by sharing in-house role for free in my newsletters. Juristat supports the in-house counsel in my network by equipping them with analytics to understand the value of their IP. That helps me add value to my in-house counsel network.
My business today is legal recruiting, but I don't know what the future will bring. I want to develop skills and relationships that help me create the next opportunity. Learning from smart people like Fran and Arun in a growing industry is a no-brainer.
I'm also pleased to discover that a number of lawyers I know are already using Juristat. I'm looking forward to sharing specific insights from Juristat for members of my network in patent-intensive roles.
Takeaway: it’s good to write online
Writing was important in two ways. One, Arun wouldn’t have found me if I wasn’t building an audience. But thinking ahead of announcing the partnership made me consider whether this role was accretive to my business. Writing also forces you to clarify why you’re making your professional decisions.
SABA Conference Digest
I attended my 9th SABA conference this month. I have a newsletter for South Asian lawyers, so I’m highly visible in the community, which makes conversations easy.
Personally, I feel very connected to the lawyers there and learn from them, but professionally there aren’t that many outcomes to point to. But I also know that career outcomes are highly nonlinear and indirect. Juristat was attracted to my niche audience of South Asian lawyers, which heavily overlaps with their audience of patent lawyers. Who knows that outcomes may precipitate in the coming years. I’ll keep going.
